Kenya Wins World Travel Awards (WTA) 2016

The 23rd annual World Travel Awards held at Diamond La Gemma Hotel in Zanzibar on 9th April, saw Kenya bagging many exciting travel awards. These awards have put Kenya in the global limelight in a ceremony deemed to recognize the travel industry players.

The winning comes a year later after Kenya won the coveted position in the last year’s 2015 World Travel Awards (WTA). This is a great demonstration to the world that Kenya is a reliable world destination offering spectacular vistas with panoramic views that encamps the world of adventure.

While receiving the awards, Kenya’s Tourism Principal Secretary Mrs. Fatuma Hirsi applauded the industry players who have consistently showcased the country amidst challenging times. The PS noted that Kenya has a world heritage to protect with regards to parks and national reserves, through conservation efforts in order to remain the top authentic safari experience.

In last year’s WTA held in El Jadida, Morocco, on 12th December, Kenya was voted as the Leading Safari Destination beating seven other nominees including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

In this year’s awards Maasai Mara National Reserve was named Africa’s Leading National Park for the third time in a row while Diani retained the top position as Africa’s Leading Beach Destination.

Nairobi the capital city of Kenya was named the Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination while Mombasa – a beautiful city in Kenya – clinched Africa’s leading Destination and Africa’s Cruise Port 2016. Mombasa port has attracted various cruise ships in the recent past and the recognition of Mombasa as a leading destination in Africa is seen as a big win for the coastal product that had suffered a lull.
